About the role

Job Title: FMV / Interactive Movie Game Director Core Role: Responsible for the overall audiovisual presentation, actor performance direction, and on-set management for interactive movie games (FMV). Work Mode: Serving as the creative core, you will work closely with game designers and screenwriters to seamlessly integrate professional filmmaking arts with branching narrative mechanics, delivering a deeply immersive gaming experience to players.

Responsibilities

Pre-production & Script Breakdown: Participate in script development and clarify branching logic. Collaborate with game designers to translate scripts into director's scripts and storyboards, ensuring seamless camera continuity at interactive decision points. Audiovisual Style Control: Define the overall visual tone, color palette, and aesthetic style of the game. Guide and supervise the camera, lighting, art, props, and styling/wardrobe teams. Casting & Actor Direction: Participate in casting and guide actors' performances and emotional range across multiple branching paths and endings. Control set pacing and ensure performances align with character designs. Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with game producers, lead game designers, and programming teams to ensure footage meets technical game development requirements (e.g., first-person POV transitions, UI layout margins, waiting loops). Post-production Supervision: Oversee editing, color grading, VFX, and sound design (BGM/SFX), focusing on narrative flow within non-linear structures to ensure international film-grade quality.

Requirements

Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree or above in Film Directing, Theatre & Film Directing, Digital Media Arts, or related fields. 3+ years of experience as a director or assistant director in film/TV series (candidates with published short dramas, web movies, or high-end TVCs are preferred). Cross-disciplinary Mindset & Gaming Knowledge: Must be an active gamer with a deep understanding of interactive movie games (e.g., The Invisible Guardian, Detroit: Become Human, Late Shift). Familiar with the unique production requirements driven by mechanics such as branching choices, QTEs, and clue collection. Cinematography & Storyboarding Skills: Strong storyboard mindset capable of managing complex non-linear shooting schedules. Practical experience with first-person POV or specialized camera setups is a plus. Execution & On-set Leadership: Exceptional skills in set management, communication, and control, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality work under strict budget and timeline constraints. Stress Tolerance & Teamwork: Ability to adapt to high-intensity shooting schedules and communicate/translate concepts effectively between the film and gaming industries.

Preferred Qualifications

Directing experience on publicly released FMV games or interactive series. Familiarity with basic concepts of Unreal Engine or Unity, as well as Virtual Production workflows (e.g., LED volumes, green screen shooting) and post-production compositing. Proven track record in specific film genres (e.g., mystery/detective, crime thriller, period espionage).
